Yesterday we brought you news of Hennessey Performance Engineering hitting 270.49 miles per hour (435.31 km/h) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida in their outrageous Lotus Exige-based Venom GT.
Today, the Texas-headquartered company released the full video of the run, showing the 1,244 hp vehicle reaching the highest speed ever recorded by a production car. Although the achievement isn’t eligible for the Guinness Book of World Records, Hennessey’s Venom GT is now faster than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which holds the official record at 268 mph (431.07 km/h) since 2010.
Wondering why the V8-powered supercar wasn’t able to dethrone the Veyron? Well, the folks over at Hennessey weren’t allowed to do a second run, which is mandatory by GWR rules, and they will only build 29 units of the Venom GT. Guinness says that a production car must be produced in at least 30 examples.
