Watch the EV West Electric Off-Road Buggy Being Hooned in the Desert

There are many advantages for choosing an EV over a conventional vehicle for normal road use, aside from the obvious green benefits. However, the same plus points, such as the instant and seamless power delivery, also help in racing applications, as racing cars, even off-road ones, need instant response from every one of their controls - throttle included.
The all-electric off-road buggy, made by EV West, is a very interesting piece of engineering. With 535 hp or 400 kW of power, which drive all four wheels through a sequential four-speed gearbox, its performance should be predictably brisk. Also, drawing power from a pair of 41 kWh battery packs, it can travel for up to 160 km or 100 miles, before needing new packs - they are swappable.

It is not yet ready for actual competition, but it is an extremely promising development, and one which will yield its fruits after it undergoes more testing and refining of the concept.
