For the first time in the nameplate’s history, the Mach 1 will be available in Europe and the United Kingdom. Best described as the pinnacle of Coyote V8 performance, the corner-carving newcomer is promoted by Ford UK with plenty of smoke coming out of the rear tires.
Before you ask, the left-hand-drive cars in the following video are either pre-production models or EU models. Just like the EcoBoost and GT, the Mach 1 will come in right-hand-drive guise in the United Kingdom and Australia.
There is, however, an issue with European models. “EU homologation” is why the 5.0-liter lump has been downtuned from 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet (569 Nm) of torque to 454 horsepower and 390 pound-feet (528 Nm). Other than suck-squeeze-bang-blow, the list of goodies and optional extras doesn’t differ from what Ford offers in the American specification.
Capable of hitting 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.4 seconds, the Mach 1 tops 155 mph (250 kph). Available in eight exterior colors, including Grabber Yellow and Fighter Jet Gray, “the fastest Mustang around a track ever to be sold in Europe” will kick off from approximately £50,000 in the United Kingdom.
Available with a 10-speed automatic even though the six-speed manual is the gearbox to have, the Mach 1 really comes alive if you specify the Handling Package. This includes lightweight wheels, a clever spoiler with a Gurney flap, rear tire spats from the Shelby GT500, a larger front spoiler, and all that jazz. MagneRide damping technology, better steering, a stiffer suspension setup, and polyurethane bushings also need to be mentioned.
As a brief refresher, the Ford Motor Company had to make a few changes to the Mustang lineup for the 2021 model year. With the introduction of the Mach 1, the flat-plane crankshaft V8-engined Shelby GT350 siblings and the GT Performance Pack Level 2 had to go. The Bullitt is no longer available either because it would have overlapped with the Mach 1.
