It's only tomorrow when Hardcore Henry premieres, but man, this surely looks like it's going to be a blast. It won't win an Oscar, even though it actually could, because of the fast-paced action and the funny way to shoot every scene, but we're in no position to judge Oscars, are we?
What matters most to us is that Hardcore Henry looks like one of the most insane action movies made in the last decade, at least from what we saw. There are multiple similarities to other titles, but one of the things we loved best is that it also introduces a hefty dose of video game-like action.
Battlefield, Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty are probably the first games that came to mind when watching this short video. Some viewers may consider that Hardcore Henry is a rather inappropriate type of movie, but there's always the freedom of watching anything else, right?
From our standpoint, we can't get enough of such movies, most likely because... we like first-person video games and the action in Hardcore Henry is video-game action at its best. The movie is "Rated R for non-stop bloody brutal violence and mayhem, language throughout, sexual content/nudity and drug use," but that's more or less exactly what other action video games are about. And again, nobody is forcing anyone to play them.
The storyline of Hardcore Henry is similar to the plot of many games over the past two decades: no memory, a kidnapped wife, everybody wants you dead, mystery helpers, and an overdose of mixed thoughts that bring you to the brink of insanity. Cue guns of all types, sizes and destructive power, spectacular stunts that defy logic, and you will get one of the most intense movies ever made.
