It’s hard to believe that the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is already two months in the past, but more examples of this awesome race continue to trickle out onto the Internet. We need not look any further for evidence of this than Jeff Zwart’s amazing race to the clouds in a Porsche 997 911 GT3 that may have had more cameras than horsepower. Just kidding… we think.
In the video, the 59-year-old director/racer is shown tackling the challenging hill climb in a race-prepped 2010 911 GT3 Cup Turbo tuned to produce 700 hp and 700 lb-ft (949 Nm) of torque. Pushing the car to its limits, this video gives us an excellent idea of just what kind of skills and concentration it takes to make a Pikes Peak attempt as Zwart averaged almost 72 mph (116 kph) in his run over the 156-turn course.

As great as the driving is, hats off to the video’s director/editor, Will Roegge, for an amazing experience. The sights and sounds are incredible as the 4-and-a-half-minute video captures the run from almost every angle imaginable. As great as the visuals are, the unaltered audio really defines this video with the tires and turbos battling for supremacy. Cameras are mounted all over the car both inside and out as well as positioned at key locations up the 12.42-mile (19.98 km) course.

With a time of 10:01.91, the seven-time class champion finished second in the Time Attack class – about 1.2 seconds behind the class winner, who was also driving a Porsche. Still, the time Zwart laid down was good enough for a ninth-place finish in the overall standings.
