Watch Deadmau5 Doing Donuts in the Desert with His McLaren P1 – Video

Considered as the successor of the McLaren F1, the P1 comes with Formula 1 derived features such as the Instant Power Assist System (IPAS). This technology gives an instant boost in acceleration via the electric motor. Then there’s the Drag Reduction System (DRS) which increases straight line speed. And the line-up of high-end features the hybrid hypercar comes with could continue for a while. But doing donuts in the dust is simply something it was not designed for.

We all know Jay Leno was the one to get his hands on the first McLaren P1 that was shipped in the US, but that was about one year ago. Today, there may be a dozen or so of these beauties revving their engines in North America. Even so, seeing one doing donuts in the sand could be the first time we've encountered something like that.

The P1 in question belongs to Canadian electronic music DJ Joel Zimmerman, one of the artists with a great passion for expensive cars. For a millionaire who likes to call himself a “dead mouse” (Deadmau5), the 34-year-old artist sure enjoys coming up with all sorts of mad ideas. Drifting a 916-horsepower hybrid machine of such complexity in the middle of the desert undoubtedly stands as one of those great ideas.

Since there’s no description of it, we can’t but guess that Zimmerman was doing donuts somewhere in the middle of Nevada’s Death Valley. Why the Nevada desert? Because Zimmerman is one of the celebrities that drove this year’s Gumball 3000 rally. The eccentric, seven-day event ended in Las Vegas the other day, so it's only safe to assume that it's also where the little bad-boy scene went on.

Awwwwwwyeah!!!!!!! #gumball3000
