With France now being in the top five list of fastest-growing markets for Spanish brand Cupra, the company decided it’s time for a special event meant exclusively for the French. So they perched an Ateca SUV on top of a building in Paris and started racing.
Title Cupra: the rooftop driving experience, the stunt is part of a wider marketing campaign and took place on the rooftop of the parking lot of the Expo Porte de Versailles Parc des Expositions. Swedish racing driver Mattias Ekström was the one tasked with the success of the task.

A makeshift track was set up on top of the building so that the car could spin around without falling over, and according to Cupra Ekström skillfully managed to “harness” the 247 km/h top speed of the Ateca. We’re not sure what that means, but more than likely it doesn’t mean this was the actual speed reached by the car on the said rooftop.

On-site for the event were all the other Cupra models, including concepts: Leon, e-Racer, Formentor and Tavascan.

The Cupra nameplate is one of the youngest of the auto industry. The company spun off from SEAT in 2018 and set out to become a more independent performance division. And its a relatively successful one at that, as since its launch as the company’s first car, the Ateca sold about 7,500 units.

“The first CUPRA model, the CUPRA Ateca, has boosted sales of the brand with close to 7,500 units sold since its market launch,” said in a statement Wayne Griffiths, the company’s CEO.

“Our European offensive is proving to be successful, and France is a case in point, where our sales have doubled in 2019 compared to the previous year.”

You can have a look at the car’s exploits on the Parisian rooftop in the video attached below.
