Watch and Learn: Potholes Are Very Dangerous to Motorcyclists

Potholes are dangerous 1 photo
Besides riding distracted and reckless/ignorant drivers, bad road conditions are one of the biggest enemies a rider can have. I’ve heard many motorcyclists claiming that they’re ready to react to such obstacles, but I’ve seen much more like them going down because of bad roads, and now there’s nothing and nobody that could change my mind: we WILL go down when hitting the “right” spot on the road, regardless of how aware we might be. How harsh the consequences will be, well, this is a matter of individual luck and particular circumstances.
Still, not riding on the best possible track around a corner is one of the things which definitely minimize the chances of remaining upright when the going gets tough. Unfortunately, this English rider learned this the hard way as he ran into a pothole in Rye, East Sussex, UK. HE was accompanied by his girlfriend, who was riding in front of him. He appears to run a little wide in the left-hander turn, and draw close to the center line.

As he tries to revise his trajectory, his bike runs into a pothole and he loses control. The two-wheeler crashes directly into the truck approaching from the opposite direction and is badly damaged. The rider however escaped with a broken shoulder, having an exceedingly close brush with certain death.

The police are investigating the video recorded by the truck driver’s dashboard camera to determine the cause of the crash and whether either (or both) motorists are responsible for this crash in any way. Truth is, riders are seldom safe, and even sunny, warm days on free roads can pose a serious crash risk. Follow this link to read more on motorcycle safety and awareness.
