Watch a Twin-Engined Volvo Wagon Pulling a Burnout with Its Rear Engine

Before you start reading this article, we should warn you that it may induce double vision symptoms. There’s no better way to describe a Volvo 850 station wagon that has two engines, with each of the units being twin charged (read: using both a turbo and a supercharger).

It all started a few years ago, when the owner of what certain people would definitely call a brick decided to tune the engine of his car, a 20-valve turbocharged five-cylinder petrol unit. One thing led to another and the Volvo engine received a custom turbo, as well as a twin-screw Eaton M45 supercharger taken off of a Mercedes.

The owner wanted to keep things... reasonable, so he went for a 350 hp setup. He must’ve changed his mind subsequently, as the decided to remove the back seat and fill the resulting space with... a similar engine.

In case you are worried about the stopping power, you should know this guy isn’t kidding at all. At least as far the front axle is concerned, the man installed carbon ceramic brakes

Work, work and some more work

As you can imagine, such a project requires a monstrous amount of work, with the guy apparently knowing his way around the DIY stuff. The build is still in progress, and probably will continue to be so for many, many years, so we’re not sure whether the mid-mounted engine has received its blower yet. You have to understand the man is on a budget, so he keeps hunting for bargains on eBay.

The guy has gone through quite some challenges, with the greatest one being related to the safety issues raised by placing two fuel tanks at the back of the car, which serve the second engine.

Living with such a car is quite a handfull, as the operations we take for granted in stock vehicles require extra care. For instance, the driver has been through multiple hoods so far - he kept forgetting to close the custom latches, with the hoods obviously flying off once he got up to speed.

A firewall for the powerplant is on its way, while the car also needs to be fitted with at least one limited slip differential. Drivability may not be this Volvo's top asset, but an LSD is a must.

Meanwhile, this Volvo 850 wagon is the perfect car for shenanigans, as demonstrated by the clip below. This shows the V car pulling a burnout... with its rear engine.
