Washington Nationals Outfielder Jayson Werth Gets Five Days in Prison for Speeding

It appears being the baseball star who managed to get the 14th biggest contract in the game’s history is not really that helpful when it comes to Virginia’s laws. Yep, back in 2010, he dropped a seven-year agreement with the Washington Nationals worth $126 million, but speeding won’t just go away when it comes to the South Atlantic region of the US state, who has now decided that Jayson Werth needs five days of intentness.

It was this December, Werth was cited with misdemeanor reckless driving in Virginia after he was caught doing 105 mph in a 55mph zone at the wheel of his Porsche. So what, that’s not such a big deal, you might say. But you should know that is a big deal in this state.

He was originally sentenced to 180 days in jail but the baseball star managed to avoid being in jail in the 2015 MLB season, as he had 170 of them suspended. Initial reports were that he has all the chances to skip prison, as a jury usually is much less likely than a judge to give an offender prison time for breaking the speed limit.

According to the Washington Post, however, Werth appealed the 10 day conviction to the circuit court and his case was supposed to start Monday, but then he reached a new plea deal for five days instead. He did manage to get quite a good agreement, considering he’ll only do the time in weekends, so he could continue rehabilitation following shoulder surgery.

Fame does help a bit after all, doesn’t it?
