As a technology, LED headlights are expensive and complicated. But turn them into 2D photographs and they become really cool wallpapers, as cool as chill out music or one of those immersive minimalist games. That's the first thing we discovered when we put together this collection of photos for your desktop.
The second thing was that most of the coolest designs come from German automakers, the note-worthy exception being Acura, who has mastered the insect eye headlight on a number of SUVs and sedans. Porsche's designs are too retro to take into account, so we'll just focus on Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Each of these companies take a slightly different approach.
BMW, for example, creates lots of haloes. Unlike the angel eyes of old, their 2013-14 models have this almost floating design, like glowworms trapped in trapped in Amber. Audi, meanwhile, uses parallel geometric shapes. Simple but beautiful little squares arranged in a row create a clean and organized look.
