This video titled "Unbekannter Erlkönig auf der A2 nähe Braunschweig" actually tells us a lot about a car that's crucial for Mercedes right now. Why? Because the "unknown prototype" seen here is the next-gen C-Class saloon, codenamed W205.
This still heavily camouflaged prototype has been spotted in Germany near the city of Braunschweig on the A2 autobahn.
The new C-Class is built around completely new and much lightened architecture which will have to also be sporty enough to compete with the BMW 3 Series. The full range of models will a convertible, alongside a new coupe and wagon.
For now, Mercedes is focusing on the sedan, which has to be tested with a large number of new powertrains, including the 333 horsepower 3-liter biturbo which will go into the flagship C400. There's also going to be a cheaper, less exciting C200 CDI base model, which will come with a manual gearbox and Renault 1.6-liter diesel engine producing 130 hp.
