You've heard of SUVs with a coupe roofline, but Volkswagen wants a sleek MPV as well. It's called the Variosport and is coming four years from now, according to a report from German media.
Right now, Volkswagen sells six "vans" that can carry people in relative comfort, ranging from the Golf Sportsvan to the T6. But the numbers point to even slower sales next decade, as EVs and crossovers take over. So why is VW adding another one? It's not' the Variosport will replace both the Golf SV and the Touran, which are pretty new models right now.

This 4.7-meter tourer will be available with seven seats. However, its primary role will be as a 5-seater, just like the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. There's never going to be a shortage of large Volkswagen models, as the extended Tiguan Allspace is hitting European showrooms and a spacious EV is on its way too.

That's why the Vario' will be sexy. The Auto Bild video below shows their rendered take on a possible design. With a slightly sloped roof, the model will be more sensual and appealing.

Sliding doors are out of the question, as deleting the B-pillars is expensive, heavy and a relatively unreliable solution in the long term. Also, expect three-dimensional metal stamping for the flanks of the car. Additional screens will be sprinkled around the cockpit for a high-tech look, but children and their needs will also be a focus with fixed tables in the back.

The speculated range of engines should also be pretty excited. Auto Bild even goes as far as to suggest 197,292 and 347 HP versions of the 2-liter petrol engine. Basically, those last two are the powertrains from the Golf 8 GTI Performance and Golf 8 R Variant.

Mild hybrid systems, a PHEV with a 70kW electric motor or electric response boosters (e-charger) are all being discussed. That's pretty exciting stuff for an MPV if you ask us.
