VW to Showcase Eco Technologies at the 2010 Hannover Messe

Volkswagen will showcase at the Hannover Messe, beginning on Monday, over 30 exhibits under the “Think Blue” slogan, representing the systematic implementation of its sustainability strategy. The Volkswagen stand will include low-consumption vehicles, sustainable production solutions and technologies of the future.

Under the tagline “BlueMotion Technologies”, VW will showcase the new generation of the Sharan MPV, which features rear sliding doors for the first time and a fuel efficiency unequalled by any other van in this class, consuming just 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers (the 2.0 TDI 140 hp variant). Another representative of the same philosophy is the Touareg Hybrid, the only hybrid SUV built by a German automaker currently on sale in Europe.

VW's vehicle production reflects the systematic implementation of the “Think Blue” credo. Taking the production process for a Polo BlueMotion car as an example, a media robot will explain visitors the environmentally-efficient and advanced technologies used in Volkswagen’s production processes. An innovative color change paint spray system, for example, demonstrates the economic and ecological savings potential during the painting process.

Volkswagen will also be giving visitors a glimpse of the future by showcasing the L1 concept. Powered by a high-tech diesel engine and an electric motor, this full hybrid is intended to become the world’s most fuel-efficient car. The technology and the extremely aerodynamic shape (cd 0.195) make possible a combined fuel consumption of just 1.38 liters/100 km (170.44 mpg).

Hannover Messe is one of the world’s leading technology trade fairs. This year, around 4,800 exhibitors from 64 countries will be showcasing their products and know-how at the exhibition which covers 155,000 square meters.
