VW to Bring Two New Golf GTIs at Worthersee Tour 2010

Volkswagen will showcase two new Golf GTIs at Worthersee Tour 2010, the traditional annual GTI meet in Austria. Although VW released only one photo, depicting the Golf GTI Adidas edition, it confirmed also the unveiling of an extreme GTI, dubbed the GTI Excessive concept.

This car will feature an aggresive body kit, with modified fascias, a front splitter, revised side skirts and a rear diffuser. The car will ride on 19-inch black alloy wheels, shod with semi slick tires. The Excessive Concept is expected to feature a modified powertrain in order to boost horsepower and torque levels. It is not clear yet if this concept will enter production or it is just a one-off for Worthersee.

As far as performance goes, the Excessive will have wider tracks, revised springs and sportier dampers for better handling and stability, plus a high performance braking system and a new exhaust.

If the official details of the Excessive Concept are yet to be offered by Volkswagen, the Golf GTI Adidas Edition are already available. Like the GTI Pirelli in 2007, dedicated to the Italian tire manufacturer, the Golf GTI Adidas Edition is a tribute to German sportswear manufacturer Adidas. This special Golf GTI features bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, sport seats and, of course, Adidas-inspired trim.

Just like the standard Golf GTI, power is provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 210 horsepower an 206 lb-ft of torque (280 Nm). The car accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph (240 km/h). The Golf GTI Adidas Edition will go on sale in June, in a limited edition of 4410 units.
