Volkswagen has just come out with a new official teaser for its upcoming fully electric sedan, which is currently dubbed ID. Aero, at least as far as the concept is concerned. This vehicle is described as a dynamic four-door model with flowing lines and plenty of space inside, with its world premiere (in concept form) set for June 27.
The German carmaker is also calling this the “first fully-electric limousine for the Chinese automobile market,” but rest assured that it will also make its way to Europe and North America.

Once it reaches production, the ID. Aero will help V-Dub expand its EV lineup in the high-volume, upper-middle class segment. This means going up against the likes of the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2 and BMW i4, to some extent.

Like all VW EVs to date, this new sedan model will also ride on the carmaker’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform, or MEB for short. Meanwhile, in terms of styling, various design lines from the ID.4 and ID. Buzz will also be easily recognizable – although the ID. Aero should stand out on its own thanks to its aerodynamic front and roof design, which help reduce energy consumption, while increasing range.

The production version of the ID. Aero will go on sale in China in the second half of 2023, while the corresponding production model for the North American and European markets will be unveiled sometime next year – it will be built at VW’s plant in Emden.

As for what it will actually look like, all we can do is speculate for now. We have seen this vehicle in prototype form, but it was very well-camouflaged (with fake front and rear fascias). Still, if the sketch is anything to go by, we reckon that it won’t look half-bad, especially when compared to something like the slightly goofy-looking ID.3.
