They might sell the Chevy Camaro in Europe now, but the hot hatch is still king in Germany, and for good reason. Germany especially loves them, and they don't much care for Renault's spartan creations.
A few hot hatches still sit atop of pecking order, the Golf GTI, Astra OPC and this, the Scirocco R. Despite being quite expensive, people love the R because of the way it looks and the way the cabin is built.
Just like a Golf GTI, it's powered by a 2-liter TSI engine, but it's got a lot more power. Launched in 2009, the beautiful coupe gets 265 hp sent only to the front wheels via a DSG dual-clutch gearbox and DCC Dynamic Chassis Control, which adjust the balance between a comfortable ride and a stiffer sport one either automatically or according to the driver's preferences.
The dark blue factory color wasn't enough of a head-turner for one Scirocco R owner, and so he took it down to SchwaberFolia, one of Germany's top car wrapper. The amazing flip-flop finish you see here is called "Sparkling Berry Matt" and is unlike anything we've ever seen.
It's joyous and effervescent, but also dark and moody, depending on how the sun hits it.
