VW Scirocco BlueMotion in the Works

After launching the BlueMotion flavor of Golf Plus in the United Kingdom, Volkswagen continues its green efforts with a new model. The German brand is reportedly working on Scirocco BlueMotion, a new version of the newly-launched model that would be more focused on environment protection and fuel consumption.

According to a report by autocar.co.uk, Passat CC and Tiguan are also in the queue for getting Bluemotioned but specific details on the launch dates or technical specifications are yet to be released.

Getting back to the Scirocco, the BlueMotion version will come with a new small diesel configuration, especially aimed at cutting CO2 emissions and raising fuel efficiency. The aforementioned source speculates the 1.6 TDI unit currently available on the Golf BlueMotion and rolling out 104 bhp is the most likely to reach the new Scirocco. Other changes will include aerodynamic upgrades, new tires and different gear ratios.

As we said, the German brand recently debuted the Golf Plus BlueMotion in the UK, a cleaner model that is offered in two trim levels and prices starting at £17,570 ($29,050) RRP for the Golf Plus BlueMotion S, rising to £18,920 ($31,280) for the SE version, which is with £325 ($537) more than standard models.

The BlueMotion version of the Golf Plus is powered by a 1.6-litre common rail TDI 105 PS engine that is capable of achieving a fuel consumption rating of 65,7 mpg (3,58l/100km) in combined cycle and releases 114g/km of CO2. That helps the fleet drivers to save up to £1,000 ($1,653) in Benefit in Kind tax over a three year period.
