Volkswagen of America has had a very successful month in March, as the company managed to sell a total of 22,148 vehicles.
The figure can be translated into a 40.9 percent increase over the one posted in March 2009 and marks the ninth consecutive month of sales growth. For the first three months of the year, Volkswagen’s U.S. arm has registered a 38.4 percent sales increase, as compared to the same period of 2009.
Volkswagen’s TDI Clean Diesel range, comprising of the Jetta sedan, Jetta Sportwagen, Golf compact and Touareg SUV were the customer’s favorite choice. The eco friendly range’s best seller was the Jetta SportWagen TDI, which accounted for 85 percent of all Jetta SportWagens sold last month.
The Tiguan compact SUV proved very popular, registering a 41.8 percent sales increase in March, as compared to the same month of 2009. The Routan minivan was also one of the best selling VW products, managing to convince 1,402 customers in March. This represents a 36.2 percent rise over the same period of last year.
"The strong performance in March of Volkswagen's many new models is further proof that we are continuing to gain positive momentum," said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. "Dealers are gearing up for greater growth as we prepare for more new product introductions in the months ahead."
