VW Roadster Postponed

Volkswagen was about to unveil their new roadster this month at the LA Auto Show but decided to postpone it at the very last minute, as Automotive news stated.

Some say that this will be a very desirable roaster with the engine mounted in the middle and lightweight. Volkswagen say that the only reason they've moved to the Detroit show is that they think the concept will have a bigger bang there.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding the concept because no one knows what size the 4 cylinder engine is going to be, if it will be behind the seats or whether the chassis will be made of aluminum to keep the weight down.

All we have are these photos of a very good looking roadster.

The German carmaker aims to launch the roadster in 2011 as an image booster. We know that it will be battling against Lotus Elises and Toyota MR2 (like)cars. The design is inspired from VW Scirocco but its platform will be shared with that of the Audi R8, which is great news.

The roadster should reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 7 seconds and rumors say that the petrol engine will be the 168hp 1.4-liter one, albeit a 1.6 diesel with 125 hp will also be available.
