Once viewed as the slow fuel for people who liked to drive tractors, diesel is rapidly becoming a source of power for performance cars, models like the Audi SQ5 BiTDI and our favorite oil-burning hot hatch, the Golf GTD.
Motivated by a new generation of 2.0 TDI engine that produces 184 PS and 380 Nm of torque, the Golf seems underpowered by comparison to its rival, the Astra GTC Biturbo, which has 195 PS from the same size of engine.
However, the 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.5 seconds achieved by the Golf GTD is better, and thanks to a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph), you can keep up with pretty much anything.
VW has just release a new set of photos for the car has been released, showing its beautiful red color, GTI-like mesh grille and black accents. You'll be glad to know that buying a GTD means you're not only getting performance, but also cool extras, like 17-inch “Curitiba” wheels with size 225 tyres, bi-xenon headlights with cornering function, LED taillights and automatic climate control.
