Remember this, the Amarok facelift our spy photographers were chasing though Sweden last winter. Turns out it isn't so much a facelift after all. The only things that were truly different about the car were the headlights, which had Bi-xenon beams and LED accents at the bottom. Today, Volkswagen reveled the best version of the Amarok yet, apply named "Ultimate" and fitted with exactly those features.
The new headlights can also be ordered on the rest of the Amarok range, which Volkswagen says is a first in this class of pickups. They're nice, but somehow, we were hoping for more radical changes.

The list of changes made to the Amarok is short and also includes silver mirrors, tinted taillights and a chromed rollover bar in the bed. The truck also receives 19-inch Aragonit alloy wheels with with 255/55 tyres and protective underbody cladding that's also decorative.

Inside, Amarok Ultimate also comes as standard with ParkPilot, including Rear Assist reversing camera, electric folding and heated wing mirrors, alarm system, heated front seats and the 'RNS 315' navigation system complete with mobile phone pairing.

Engine choices will continue to be the same 2.0 TDI units, delivering either 140 hp and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) or 180 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). They're available in combination with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, manual or automatic transmission, on both single and double cabs. One of the highlights of VW's press release states that "further engine variants for single and double cab" will be available, so maybe more changes will be made later on, though we don't expect anything major.
