VW Recalls Jetta, Jetta Sportwagen, GTI and Eos

German manufacturer Volkswagen has just announced a voluntary recall of the 2009-2010 Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, and Eos in the U.S., after discovering that some models equipped with its DSG transmission could be affected. Therefore, the recall applies to 13,500 vehicles built between September 2008 and August 2009.

“Models affected by the recall include the Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, and Eos built between September 2008 and August 2009. The recall applies to 2009 model year vehicles along with a very limited number of 2010 model year vehicles,” stated Volkswagen’s notification.

In fact, the problem concerns a temperature sensor in the DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission, which doesn't have any serious consequences other than causing some warning lamps in your dashboard to light up.

However, Volkswagen still warns the owners that in some cases, the transmission may shift into neutral, which could affect the driver if it happens when he overtakes another vehicle, which may lead to a potential crash.

“A small number of these may be affected by a faulty temperature sensor in the DSG transmission. Failure of the temperature sensor could result in illuminated warning lamps in the dashboard, and in rare instances the transmission may shift into neutral,” the notification said.

Therefore, Volkswagen announced that all the 13,500 owners will be soon contacted by the company in order to make an appointment and provide a remedy for the problem.

“In the coming weeks, owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Volkswagen of America to schedule an appointment at their local dealer to have their vehicle inspected, and if necessary, have the vehicle repaired.” Moreover, for customers who have questions or concerns the Volkswagen Loyalty Center can be contacted at 1-800-444-8982.
