VW Polo Receives 2010 Car of the Year Crown

After back in November the new Polo has become the first Volkswagen to win the award in the last 18 years, the award ceremony held yesterday in Wolfsburg sealed the European Car of the Year 2010 crown on Polo's legacy. The award has been accepted by Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen chairman of the board.

"It takes a great team to build winners like the Polo. I am proud the Volkswagen Group has such a strong and motivated team that has made the Polo with its cutting-edge technology, quality and safety affordable for everyone," Winterkorn said when receiving the award.

According to the Car of the Year (COTY) organization, the Polo was chosen by 25 members of the jury as their favorite car. The scaled-down Golf, as it was seen by COTY, managed to gather 347 points, winning in front of Toyota's iQ by a margin of only ten points.

"The Volkswagen spirit of excellence is integrated into the structure and looks of this model that plays the role of not being as big as other cars in this segment. Perceived quality is unprecedented in the category, and that especially shows in the elegant cabin," the judges said about the Polo.

The COTY award is not the first for the new Polo. So far, Polo's trophy case includes Best Car 2009 (Auto Motor und Sport), Grune (Golden Steering Wheel) and the Auto Trophy (Autozeitung).
