VW Polo R Won't Be Made

Every single model from Volkswagen's yard that wears the R designation is attractive in its very own way, so every time the Germans plan to launch such a version, fans are getting in the queue line to either buy or test one. Unfortunately, none of these two options will be available when it comes to Polo R because Volkswagen won't produce a high-performance version of the Polo besides the GTI. A report by Autocar claims the price of a potential Polo R is the main reason for the decision, as the German carmaker would have to price the R between the Polo GTI and Golf GTI. “We already have Polo GTI at £19,000 and then the Golf GTI is only another £6000 more; it would be difficult to price the Polo R between them," a Volkswagen official told the aforementioned source. Back in October 2010, it was rumored that the R-designated Polo would come with all-wheel drive, as part of Volkswagen's upgrade to the PQ25 platform that also spawns the Audi S1. The S1 is thus believed to generate a maximum power of 270 horsepower, but it is still unknown whether it will be powered by a 1.4 TSI or a 2.0 TFSI unit.
