VW Polo GTI Beatboxes Its Way into New TV Spot

We now know that there is a Polo R coming in the next few years, and it has some tricks to wow the crowd, but what about the Polo GTI? Apparently, the diminutive hothatch has been around the block in the year’s it’s been on the market and has gained street “cred”.

In a recent TV spot from Das Auto’s Singapore wing, the Polo GTI challenges a youngster to a beatboxing battle. The ad is the Tribal DDB global marketing agency, which brought in local beatboxing talent Dharni Ng to lay down some slick beats. The GTI answers in turn with some engine revs and by using its electrics to the max. We’re not that impressed with the car’s showing but Dharni has the skills to make it all work.

The spot reminds us of the “Unpimp my auto” ads from back in the day, when VW made war against silly graphics, wings and exhausts that make tuned cars look ridiculous.

Before you scroll down to check out the video, we will remind you that the Polo GTI is a pocket rocket packing 180 horsepower, thanks to its 1.4-liter TSI engine, the same unit as in the SEAT Ibiza Cupra. The hot Polo's TSI gasoline engine is linked to a compact seven-speed, twin-clutch DSG gearbox that channels drive through the front axle.

The model weighs 1,184kg or 2,610 lbs, and can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds. Keep the pedal on the right buried in the carpet and you will eventually reach its top speed of 228 km/h (142 mph).

While it might not have all the beatboxing skills of a pro, it does come with 17-inch alloy wheels in low profile tires, red brake callipers, blacked out headlamps with LED daytime running lights and the typical GTI honeycomb grille with a red frame.
