Volkswagen just revealed a fresh face for the Polo 6R generation of supermini at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. Earlier today, the very same model has just been spotted for the first time in India, indicating that a local market debut of the facelift is imminent.
You can tell it's the facelift from the fog lights and the chrome strip that connects them. But not all the changes made to the European version are available here. Both the headlights and taillights look cheaper and trim will likely be substantially reduced. Some of you might remember the Polo was the only new car sold in India not to receive a zero-star NCAP rating back in January. Hopefully, the 4 airbags fitted as an option at the time will become standard with the facelift.
Even bigger changes will be made under the bonnet. MotorBeam.com reports that a new Polo GT TDI model will be launched. The 1.6-liter diesel engine would be replaced by a smaller 1.5-liter 4-cylinder TDI mill exclusively developed for India and producing 104bhp (105 PS). This will replace the 1.2-liter TDI triple and the 89bhp (90 PS) 1.6
The German manufacture has had to develop this engine to take advantage of Indian market regulations, which places much stricter restrictions on buyers who want an engine with displacement bigger than 1.5 liters.
