VW of America Launches Customer Service Program

{img1 alig=left}After several customers raised concerns with certain Volkswagen and Audi models equipped with Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), the German carmaker decided to initiate a customer service program that will directly address those problems.

The program concerns a limited number of model years 2007-2009 Volkswagens and Audis, and it applies to the following models only: Volkswagen R32, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, Eos, as well as Audi A3 and TT.

The transmission performance issues occur due to a faulty component inside the Mechatronic unit. Therefore, Volkswagen Group of America will repair or replace the components in the transmissions of approximately 43,000 Volkswagens and 10,300 Audis. Undoubtedly, this will mean no extra costs for the owners. Moreover, the manufacturer will give the money back to those who repaired it at their own expense.

However, Volkswagen announced that this program has nothing to do with the voluntary safety recall that was announced a few weeks ago and was concerning a faulty temperature sensor, that could cause the transmission to shift into neutral while the vehicle is being driven.

Thus, for all the vehicles with DSG transmission affected by the customer service program and the voluntary safety recall, Volkswagen Group of America will extend its New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

"Safety, customer satisfaction, quality and long-term reliability are top priorities at Volkswagen and Audi. We have been studying the symptoms customers have reported, and are working closely with the NHTSA," said Stefan Jacoby, president and CEO, VWGoA. "We listened to our customers' concerns, and are taking action to address them. We are focused on taking all the appropriate actions to ensure the complete satisfaction of our existing customers."
