After already showing us six ID. concepts at previous auto shows over the past fea years, Volkswagen is bringing the seventh to the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show next week : the ID. Space Vizzion.
The concept Angelenos will experience in the flesh, and the rest of the world online, starting November 19 is a preview of a production car, electric of course, that will be released in 2021 and sold in different versions in North America, Europe and China.
The concept, as will the production version, is built on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) that will be used on all of the company’s electric cars.
Designed to keep in line with the rest of its family, the ID. Space Vizzion is described as a “wagon of tomorrow that combines the aerodynamic characteristics of a Gran Turismo with the spaciousness of an SUV.” One that through clever drawing will manage to boast great aerodynamic properties and allow for an increased range.
Volkswagen did not release the technical details of the concept, but it did say the batteries fitted on it should allow for a distance of 590 km (WLTP) or 300 miles (EPA) to be covered on one go.
The interior, with its completely digitized cockpit, is made of new materials, including one called AppleSkin. With no connection to the tech giant that builds iPhones or Macs, the material is “an artificial leather with a proportion of residual matter from apple juice production.”
The ID. Space Vizzion is joining the range of concepts that already includes Crozz, Buzz, Vizzion, Buggy and Roomz. Most, if not all, have been already confirmed for production.
“So far, with our ID. family, we have shown what is possible with electric vehicles in each known car category. With the ID. Space Vizzion we create a new, fully electric segment,” said in a statement Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Design.
