VW Group Posts 6.7 Percent Growth in July

Leaving the deal with Porsche aside, Volkswagen Group is doing quite fine, in spite of the global recession which is still keeping the auto sector under pressure. The Group posted a 6.7 percent growth in worldwide deliveries in July, the company announced in a release, with most brands, including VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT performing better than the overall market.

VW Group sold a total of 556,900 cars in July, up from 521,100 units in the same month of the previous year. This raises the total figures for 2009 to 3.65 million sold vehicles, in spite of a 16 percent drop of the overall market.

Volkswagen's Chinese figures are "exceptionally positive", the company said, with the Group delivering 127,900 vehicles in the country, 68.4 percent up compared to the same month in 2008. As for the domestic market, the whole group attracted no less than 250,000 new customers thanks to the scrapping scheme in Germany, with deliveries growing by 26.9 percent to 113,700 units.

"We are making good progress and winning market share worldwide. Our current delivery figures are above plan. That proves we are present on the right markets with the right products at the right time," Detlef Wittig, Executive Vice President, Group Sales and Marketing, commented in Wolfsburg on Monday.

"It gives us a solid, positive basis for the post-crisis period. However, the recession is not over yet, it has perhaps bottomed out, but we see no signs yet of a sustained recovery on world markets. That is why we are viewing further developments with caution," he added.
