Volkswagen says that it will bring no less than three cars to this year’s Golf blue-e-motion on November 5th, including their Golf blue-e-motion prototype EV, which won last year’s edition. The Challenge follows a route from Madeira Drive in Brighton to Pall Mall in London, during which the participating vehicles are measured for the energy they use, and the winning car will be the one that used the least fuel.
The Golf blue-e-motion is based on the sixth-generation hatch and offers 115 hp from its electric motor which is powered by a series of lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 26.5 kilowatt hours. To show that EVs can be practical, VW left 279 liters worth of boot space and the looks can hardly be differentiated from the standard car, because they haven’t covered over the grilles.

Besides the two EVs, VW will also enter ne of the most efficient and lowest-polluting production vehicles on sale today, in the form of the new Passat BlueMotion. Its 1.6-liter TDI engine has 105 hp and does does 68.9 mpg, so it could touch the full hundred on an economy run.
