We can hear a part of the younger audience asking “what’s so special about a Golf that comes in multiple colors?” First of all, we have to note the number of hues on this VW’s body is fixed (four) and that’s because we are talking about a Harlequin Golf.
This is a trend Vee Dub itself launched back in the mid-1990s, but while the company introduced a “happy” limited edition for the Golf MK III, it stopped there. This is one of those rare pieces of VW culture that only addressed the North American market, with the carmaker’s home continent receiving rock band special edition MK III Golfs instead. While most of the cars predictably ended up in the US, a few of them went to Mexican customers.
However, the fans continued the tradition and those of you who attend car meets on a regular basis know what we mean - you occasionally get to see an old Golf with such a theme.
This might just be the first time when the Harlequin apparel is found on a newer Golf - this is the GTI incarnation of the Golf MK VI.
The joyful rabbit made it to Reddit, with the owner explaining this is a wrap. Check out the static image below, which is of decent quality, and you might be tempted to think this VW uses paint, not a wrap, which only means we’re dealing with top notch vinyl quality.
The basic rule for the Harlequin states that the main color of the car is the one present on the non-detachable panels, while this hue must not be found on any other panel from the car.
This MK VI seems to follow the original scheme, even though the owner went for the contemporary color pallet, skipping the 1996 hues.
With VW having only released 264 Harlequin MK III Golfs back in 1996, this GTI, which does seem to pack Golf R braking hardware, is a nice spot.
