Is it just me or did Volkswagen used to be a much crazier/adventurous car company last decade. Sure, they made some really weird cars, but the Phaeton and Touareg were huge risks to be taken compared to today's ever-increasing Golf range.
Don't get me wrong, I love the new Passat and the way it goes over the bumps. But older models used to be more… easily chucked sideways, more fun to drive.
Nowadays, the Golf R is considered the fastest production Volkswagen, capable of reaching 100 km/h in 5 seconds. But it almost feels like the Germans aren't trying because I've seen drag races where a Touareg V8 TDI almost catches the Golf. That's not good!
Back a few years ago, the Passat R36 was the king of Vdub speed. It was equipped with a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 that could catapult it to 100 km/h in about 5.5 seconds. Sure, it would sometimes drink fuel at the rate of 40 liters per 100 kilometers, but that 3.6L had more character than any little turbo.
What if you could take that engine and use it to revive a Volkswagen model almost on the brink of death? Well, you might end up with something like this Eos convertible, which is tuned to the teeth.
Because the Eos uses the same PQ35 platform as the Scirocco, some of the mounting points were the same, so the owner decided to give it a radical facelift by installing the front bumper and headlights of a modern 'Rocco coupe.
Around the back, things look similar to the Golf R, right down to the placement of the exhaust mufflers. Speaking of which, the pipes on this unique convertible have been changed for a set of custom-built Bull-X 3.5-inch exhausts from HG Motorsport. She doesn't purr like a kitten; she screams like an angry lion. Air suspension and some 20-inch Vossen wheels have been installed since the last time we saw the car
