VW Built a Child Stroller That Brakes Automatically and Follows You Around At Safe Distance

After watching a commercial, some guy argued an self-braking child stroller would actually be a good thing and VW listened to him and the result is a automatically braking stroller.

Yes, you read that right, but before we get into specifics, allow us to tell you how it all started.

The month was April when Volkswagen Netherlands launched a commercial where VW owners had great expectation from their personal belongings.

Among them, there was a mother who was trying to understand why baby stroller producers don't equip their products with an automatic braking system. In response to the ad - which was posted on Facebook - a VW fan addressed the following question in a comment: "Am I crazy, or is a stroller that brakes a really good idea?"

This was the only spark needed for VW to start building a let's call it futuristic baby stroller based on technology they user in their cars.

But this is a top carmaker we're talking here, so the baby stroller got smarter than it was supposed to be. VW engineers not only made it capable of automatically braking in case it would detect an impact with another object, but they also gave it distance-keeping abilities.

For that to happen, they took a sensor from the Golf, namely the adaptive cruise control sensor that allows the car to keep an exact safe distance to the vehicle in front.

When that car goes faster, the car wearing the sensor goes faster, or when the other car brakes, the one behind it brakes as well.

So, you can go for a jog, and the stroller will follow you at a safe distance, but you could also go for a walk without having to worry about your child's safety as the carriage will automatically stop behind you at a pedestrian crossing, for example.
