The VW Beetle was not built for thrills, but with basically the same powertrain as a Scirocco or Golf, it's not a slouch in the straight line either in it's top spec 2.0 TSI "Turbo" form. If the 211 PS the Germans offer aren't enough, we do know of a solution though.
This interesting little Bug has been chip-tuned by Mcchip-DKR SoftwarePerformance, a German company that says it can bump output to 256 PS in a matter of just 3 to 4 hours. Toque is also up, from 280 Nm to 365 Nm, meaning about the same figures as the Scirocco R.
Besides €850 engine tune, the Beetle also features a number of parts from the ABT Sportsline configurator, including wheels, headlight "eyelids", inserts for the bumpers and a new exhaust system with oval tips. All things considered, it's not a bad look, if tuned girls' cars are your thing.
Speaking of the R badge, Vdub fans should be on the lookout for the Beetle R, coming maybe as early as next month. A test prototype has been spotted last year, and we believe the same powertrain offered for the Scirocco R facelift is in store. Look for a 280 PS turbo with a limited-slip diff, lowered suspension and upgraded brakes.
