Hello fellow Beetle fans, and welcome to the car Volkswagen will build if we ask them really nicely. It's the second incarnation of the Beetle Dune, after a similarly designed concept from 2000 and we think it's the bee's knees… or the dirt beetle's knees.
Based on the current generation Beetle coupe, which came out not too long ago, this concept making its debut in Detroit is like putting the soft-roading kit from Passat Alltrack on a girly car.
the basis for the concept appears o be a Beetle R-line, the most cosmetically appealing version of the car. Its powertrain consists of 210 ponies from a 2-liter TSI turbo and a six-speed DSG. It will carve up a sandy beach or a mountain slope thanks to the 255.45 rubber on its 19-inch wheels.
This masculine ladybug is not only taller, by 50mm or about 2 inches, but also winder and slightly longer. Why? Because the Beetle's now iconic fascia is amplified using the aluminum skidplate, flanked by trapezoidal LED fog lights.
The whole package is presented in a nice metallic sunrise yellow Volkswagen calls the Arizona, basically a really cool normal color. The interior is equally un-concept-like. The Beetle has a bigger 7.7-inch infotainment touchscreen with its menu color-coded to the body, a grab-handle in front of the passenger and the alcantara seats from the R-Line package.
With the 2000 concept, a production version was said to be considered, but ultimately never materialized. Do you guys think this one should be different?
