Volkswagen specialist tuner ABT Sportsline has just released an aftermarket package for the Beetle Cabriolet, aimed at those who deem the R-line package not original enough.
Starting with what's under the bonnet, this Golf 6 in retro cabrio clothes can be cranked up to 260 horsepower, which is not surprising considering it's available with a 2-liter turbo engine. This upgrade is only available for those buyers with the latest models, which started out with a 210 hp output. 2012 models with only 200 hp, like the GTI Mk5, only get 240 hp.

There are a few other ECU remaps that are available for the less fortunate of buyers who could only afford a smaller engine. The 1.2 TSI now produces 140 hp and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) under ABT supervision, as opposed to 105 PS and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) of tuque.

The Beetle Cabrio is also available with a 1.4-liter TSI making 160 hp, which ABT says it can tune to 210 hp and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft), quite impressive for such a small engine.

Finally, there are the diesels. The 1.6 TDI version of the Beetle Cabrio goes up in power from 105 hp to 125 hp, while torque is electronically boosted from 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) to 285 Nm (210 lb-ft). The bigger and more powerful 2-liter TDI with 140 hp gets boosted to the same output as its sister engine: 170 hp.

Packaging is everything in the tuning business, which is why ABT also offers a wide variety of bits and pieces for the Bug with no roof, including bumper inserts, a spoiler, eyelids for the headlights and a variety of wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches. The car in our photos has also been lowered on sports suspension, which brings it 30mm closer to the ground at the front and 35mm at the back.
