Volkswagen has just announced the prices for the sixth generation Golf scheduled for launch in January 2009. The cheapest edition of Volkswagen Golf 6 is sold for 17,000 euros, and comes with a 1.4-liter engine producing 80 horsepower while the top GT TDI variant is equipped with a 2.0-liter TDI engine that releases 140 hp. Compared with all the other versions of Golf 6, the GT TDI also features a six-speed DSG gearbox, similar to the Mk5 models.

There are several engine configurations available, including petrol-powered 1.4 80 hp, 1.6 102 hp or 1.4 TSI producing 122 or 160 hp and a diesel-powered 2.0-liter one which releases 110 or 140 hp.

In contrast to the previous variants of Volkswagen Golf, the sixth generation includes two new technologies, namely Adaptive Chassis Control, formerly known as ACC, and ParkAssist. While ACC allows the driver to adjust the suspension, the steering and the accelerator response settings in accordance to the ride and the road, ParkAssist helps the driver park the car or drive in reverse safer and easier than anytime before.

The SE trim includes a stereo audio system with eight speakers, an iPod connection port, as well as cruise control and 16-inch alloy wheels. The top of the range variant, the GT, features sports suspension, sport seats, front fog lights and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Besides the completely new design, VW Golf 6 includes many other improvements, including reshaped doors, a new engine mounting system and a new damping film supporting the windshield.

Volkswagen Golf was first launched in 1974 and since then, more than 26 million units were sold to customers from all over the world. Although the whole automotive industry is massively affected by the global economic crisis, the company expects increasing sales in the upcoming year.
