VW and Audi - Favourites of Chinese Buyers

As China’s economy keeps growing, there will be more and more people who will be able to afford increasingly luxurious cars. Audi is a brand well aware of this fact, offering many China-specific versions of their cars to cater for the local needs, along with its parent-company, VW.

For the Chinese buyer, VW is the stepping stone towards the dream of owning an Audi - cars at the very pinnacle of German engineering. Even the numbers back this up, as VW and Audi are easily the most popular car brands for the prospective Chinese buyer.

According to J.D. Power’s 2012 China New Vehicle Intender Study, the two aforementioned brands received top ratings in many categories, and, of those, VW received the highest honors for the entry-level mid-sized, mid-sized, upper premium mid-sized and SUV segments.Audi is most popular in the entry-level luxury, luxury and luxury SUV categories, which are extremely important, in a country where the number of executives has a constant upward tendency.

These top German brands are appreciated for their safety features, overall quality, durability and low failure rates (with this latter aspect straying dangerously close towards being false). However, the study should be accurate, as it was concentrated strictly on people who were looking to buy a new car in the next year.

The Highest-Ranking Cars In China Are:
  • Compact: Chevrolet Spark
  • Premium compact: FAW Oley B30
  • Entry midsize: Volkswagen Polo
  • Midsize: Volkswagen Lavida
  • Lower premium midsize: Roewe 550
  • Upper premium midsize: Volkswagen New Passat
  • Entry luxury: Audi A4L
  • Luxury: Audi A6L
  • SUV: Volkswagen Tiguan
