Despite the fact that the third generation of the smart fortwo is about two months away from being unveiled, the current model still has at least half a year until it goes out of production, so smart decided to infuse it with a bit more attention from the world in its final days.
So much attention, in fact, that they decided to create a special one-off model based on the smart fortwo Brabus, and they are putting its overall design into the hands of its fans.
In short, a rather funky social media campaign called “smart fan edition” recently appeared, giving smart fans around the world the possibility to vote on the configuration of their perfect fortwo Brabus via either Facebook or a dedicated microsite.
Users can vote on the color of the changeable body panels, the tridion safety cell, the seats and even the type of quilting of the upholstery or the type of light-alloy wheels.
When the campaign ends, smart fortwo fans from Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal and last, but not least, the US, will have designed their favorite-looking car.
Since that is probably far from sounding like an awesome prize for most people, all participants will be entered into a special draw that can win them a trip to the “smart times 2014” event, which will take place in Cascais, Portugal.
Keeping the current smart fortwo fresh via this type of campaign is pretty cool to us, but we sincerely can't wait to finally check out the upcoming third generation of the model. Plus, it would have probably been nicer for the winning fan to actually receive the car whose design he voted on, but maybe that's just us.
