Volvo’s “What Drives Edward” Contest Winners

As the movie “Twilight Saga: New Moon” is still making teenagers dream of being a vampire, Volvo chose its winners for the “What Drives Edward” competition. The winners were the first people who managed to solve the puzzle posted on the official website of the contest. The contest was a real success, as 370,000 people from US, Canada, Germany, UK and France participated.

As the US had 300,000 participants, Volvo decided to send there two of the awards: Beth Gleason, 18 and Jeannette Lee Underwood, 19, were the two winners of a XC60. Such a car was also won by 22 year old Christopher Johnstone from Canada.

The France winner, a 29 years old who does not want his name mentioned, managed to beat over 11,000 other contestants and won a Volvo C30 R-Design. The competition in Germany had 13,000 participants, out of which 850 solved the complete puzzle. 25 year old Sebastian Ecker was first and was awarded a new Volvo C30. In the UK the winner is David Inglis, 21 years old, who was the fastest out of the 24,000 competitors. He won a Volvo XC60.

"More younger people think that Volvo is 'cool' because Edward drives one and this will impact on their future car buying decision making - Volvo is now on the radar; and in fact their 'moms' think the same" says Paul Walder, Global Marketing Manager at Volvo Cars.

"Volvo is truly delighted to be part of the New Moon experience and nothing beats being authentically linked to a phenomenon like this. People really liked the fun of the challenging puzzles, and we are delighted with the reactions we are getting."
