Volvo cares about safety so much they are kind enough to offer a helping hand to two-wheel commuters too. A while ago, everybody was going nuts about this new reflective spray, aimed at increasing the visibility of cyclists on the road. It was first available as part of a limited pilot in April 2015, but it will soon hit the UK market.
Volvo claims the product, first distributed through six London bike shops, ran out within 24 hours, creating massive demand for wider distribution. Well, the carmaker that prides itself on safety has now decided to take another step towards a better world and turn the product into series production.

Starting this weekend, the spray will be available at participating Volvo dealers, and those who want to see how it works are invited to visit and take part in the events. We’ll remind you that the innovative spray reacts to a car’s headlights, alerting drivers to the presence of cyclists in the dark.

Volvo Cars LifePaint is a unique illuminating safety paint that is invisible by daylight, but in the dark reflects light in the same direction as the light source. Not only can it save lives, but it won’t harm your jacket either since it’s transparent and can be washed off easily. You can apply it to almost anything, from clothes or shoes to helmets, pushchairs and even children’s backpacks.

To make sure it will not run out of supplies, Volvo has secured a further partnership with the makers of the product, Swedish startup Albedo100, to distribute the product through its dealer network. Apparently, the innovative safety spray was inspired by Volvo’s cars.

“The inspiration for the Volvo Cars LifePaint project came from Intellisafe - Volvo’s unique pedestrian and cyclist detection system enhanced to work in darkness on the all-new Volvo XC90, which was introduced to the UK in June this year. Intellisafe is a state-of-the-art Volvo safety system that integrates some of the most cutting-edge safety technologies to Volvo cars. The technology uses a combination of radar sensors and cameras to identify other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists and automatically brake if the driver fails to take the necessary action.”

It’s all part of a bigger plan that says nobody should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020.
