Volvo XC90 Polestar Rendered into Reality

It's been a few days since the all-new Volvo XC90 was introduced, with its modern logo design and futuristic styling. Like any new model, the performance version will come in a couple of years or so, but that didn't stop Photoshop manipulators to work their magic and imagine how a Polestar would look like.

Polestar Racing is basically the manufacturer's factory racing team, which develops and builds race cars for the Scandinavian Touring Car and the Australian-based International V8 Supercars Championship. But there's also a division called Polestar Performance. Think of it as a similar entity to Mercedes-Benz's AMG, BMW's M or Audi's Rennsport performance divisions.

Polestar's current lineup consists of slightly hotter versions of current Volvo models, but their crown jewel is the concept version of the S60. Thanks to its 508 horsepower churned out by a modified T6 engine, this concept is able to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. As for the first-gen XC90, Polestar offered a handful of go-faster packages and the usual visual drama, but that car is not produced anymore so it's redundant to talk about it any longer. Let's focus on what Polestar might do with the new XC90.

What pixel wizard X-Tomi Design has rendered here looks pretty much like what anyone would expect from a second-generation Volvo XC90 wearing Polestar clothes. Bigger, sportier rims, and a more dramatic front fascia design with bigger air intakes and a deep chin spoiler. Oh, and don't forget about the mandatory Polestar Blue exterior hue and blacked out side mirrors.

While all of the aforementioned will certainly be added to the real-life XC90 Polestar, that is if Volvo will actually make one, drivetrain mods are still an unsolved mystery. We do expect to get souped up versions of the range-topping D5 twin-turbo diesel and T6 turbo'd/supercharged petrol mill, but don't expect them to carry more than 50 horsepower over their standard outputs. It would be a dream if Polestar would tinker with the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid variant of the 2015 Volvo XC90 though.
