Volvo has unveiled the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept ahead of its official debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. The good news is that while it’s highly focused on being green, the XC60 has lost none of its practicality appeal.
The Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept packs a turbocharged four-cylinder with 280 hp and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) that’s part of a VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture) drivetrain that also makes use of an electric motor, which adds an extra 70 hp and 200 Nm (148 lb.-ft.).
The concept operates in three different driving models. There’s Pure, which is the all-electric mode, Hybrid, in which both motors are used to provide maximum efficiency, and Power - when the the gasoline unit and the electric motor are used for maximum performance. It also has electric four-wheel drive for when the going gets tough.
