Volvo XC40 Triumphs Over Jaguar E-Pace and BMW X2 Once Again
As some of you may have heard, there's a little something called an SUV, and it's replacing the wagon, the sedan... everything.
Ever since Jaguar launched the F-Pace, everything else has become a footnote. So the British brand took the Evoque platform and quickly came up with the smaller E-Pace, which has its flaws. Jaguar could shut down some of its sedans and sales would actually grow.

Likewise, the XC40 is born of success. While Volvo used to be the company that makes robust wagons, its SUVs are now among the most popular luxury vehicles all over the world. But the XC40 is unique because it's not designed with a cookie cutter.

Its creators were allowed to cut loose and do whatever they want. So you got a unique combo of boxy exterior and orange-accented interior. A few areas are cheaply built compared to an XC90, but not unpleasantly so. Also, the XC40 is the only model here and in the entire segment (right now, but Lexus is changing that) to offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

And lastly, we have the BMW X2, which is fantastic to drive for a small SUV. But that's to be expected not because it's made by the Bavarians but due to its hatchback-like body. However, Carbuyer didn't like a lot of things about this model. For example, the interior is dar and too old-fashioned, while the exterior appearance won't appeal to everybody.

Once again, the XC40 is found to be the winner due to its creative nature and features. However, we know these sorts of things don't matter to everybody. For example, even though reviews criticize the E-Pace for being slow and heavy, customers can't get enough of that compact Jaguar look. It's got a wonderful sporty look and British character by the bucket.
