Yesterday, we brought you the story on how driver preference resulted in new orders for Volvo Trucks. Now, we will tell you about how the Swedish truck maker is making an impact in the automotive industry.
The global logistics provider, Yusen Logistics in Britain, has added a further 34 Volvo tractor units to its Swindon-basedfleet where they are the sole provider of logistics services to Honda UK for inbound parts collections.
“These new trucks have joined our 360-strong fleet, half of which are already Volvos. The majority are FM models with a couple of FH’s to boot and I’m expecting good results from the 11-litre engine,” Technical Services Director for Yusen Logistics, Mark LeMontais, explains.
Supplied by Truck and Bus Wales and West’s Avonmouth Dealerpoint, the 34 new FM-450 two-axle artics and the FH-460 6x2s will be maintained on R&M contracts by their Swindon Dealerpoint. “We get a top-notch service from Volvo’s Dealer in Swindon and their speed of response is among the very best,” said Mark.
Mark instigated a ‘two-pedal’ policy in the YL fleet as far back as 2007 and his analysis of the advantages of automated transmissions won him the accolade of ‘Fleet Engineer of the Year’ at that year’s Motor Transport Awards, so this man know a thing or two about saving at the pump.
“It’s my mission to keep cutting our diesel fuel bill, and Volvo’s automated I-Shift gearbox, together with our skilled in-house driver trainers, will help us towards that objective,” Mark concludes. As the company spends tens of millions on fuel alone, his motivation becomes understandable.
