Volvo Trucks’ marketing team enjoyed great worldwide success in 2013 due to a trio of epic video ads. After the Ballerina Stunt, Charlie the Hamster and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Epic Split, the Swedes are at it again. But this time around, Volvo brought the Koenigsegg One:1 hypercar to entertain us.
Titled “Volvo Trucks vs Koenigsegg,” the new marketing stunt will be uploaded on YouTube on November 11st, but ’til then, the company offered us with a glimpse of things to come. As simply put as possible, there’s a truck vs hypercar drag race in store for you. But isn’t that a bit redundant to do?

Not quite. There’s a tad of substance to this apparently mad drag race. Volvo’s truck division recently introduced a new type of automatic gearbox that can also be had on the FH range. Dubbed I-Shift Dual Clutch, the new transmission is the first on the market featuring a dual clutch system for heavy vehicles. The I-Shift also brings power-shift gear changes without any interruption in power delivery, torque and momentum. Game-changing cog-swapping this is.

“Matching a Volvo FH against Koenigsegg One:1 is the perfect challenge to see if our newly launched I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission lives up to expectations in terms of driveability and driving comfort that comes with seamless gear shifting,” explained Per Nilsson, the PR director of Volvo Trucks.

In order to demonstrate the new piece of kit, Volvo Trucks decided to pit their FH truck against a Koenisegg One:1. If you don’t know what the latter is, here’s the essentials: 1,341 horsepower, 1,371 Nm (1,011 lb-ft) of torque, a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1, the 0 to 400 km/h (248 mph) sprint comes in 20 seconds and a 440 km/h (273 mph) top speed. Ridiculous numbers, but hey - the Koenigsegg One:1 is an automotive quantum leap on par with the monstrous Veyron and that’s saying a lot about Koenigsegg.

By comparison, the long haul Volvo FH truck offers a maximum of 750 ponies from the range-topping D16K in-line six turbo diesel powerplant. We don’t know how the drag race between the two will end. All we know is that Fifth Gear’s Tiff Needell is going to be in the driver’s seat of the Volvo FH16 750 truck, driving all of its wheels off against the Koenigsegg One:1 at the Ring Knutstorp circuit in Sweden.
