The Chinese really love their rear legroom and with the rapidly expanding car market there, every manufacturer is keen to capitalize on it. Volvo, now being Chinese-owned, will surely attempt to benefit from the ‘long wheelbase craze’ which has been going around for a while and has been adopted by Mercedes, BMW and Audi.
The S60L will try to improve the S80L’s poor sales figures with an injection of fresh styling and appeal which the old (looking and feeling) S80 just can’t match. The long wheelbase S60 is expected to be built in Chengdu until the end of the year. The new S60’s sharp styling will lend itself well to the longer wheelbase and the car won’t look disproportionate like the 3-Series long wheelbase, coupled with Volvo’s very good interior and supremely comfortable seats, we’re expecting it to be a success.
No official confirmation has been received so far, but Volvo’s execs would be foolish not to take advantage of China’s love for that extra bit of rear legroom.
