Volvo Teases Luxury XC90 SUV With No Front Passenger Seat For Auto Shanghai 2015

Volvo is manifesting an interest in luxurious cars as the Auto Shaghai 2015 closes in, but we're not talking about the XC90 Excellence. This time, the Chinese-owned carmaker (sort of) teased an unique XC90 that's missing the front passenger seat.

The arrival of the XC90 shifted the balance in Volvo's range, as the freshly launched Swedish SUV became the company's flagship model. We already found out about the XC90 Excellence luxury version that will take a bow in Shanghai in a couple of days, and the first batch of official photos from Volvo left our mouths watering.

Think of a Scandinavian, SUV version of a Bentley or Rolls-Royce model, and you'll get a good picture of what the XC90 Excellence SUV stands for.

However, Volvo is riding high and won't settle for just one almost-opulent model in Shaghai. There's more in the bag, so the company came up with a video to tease an even more luxurious car than the XC90 Excellence, bound to make a debut on the Chinese automotive catwalk. Is it gold plated? No. Does it come with crocodile leather seats and platinum dashboard? No. In fact, it has no front passenger seat.

While we don't get to see the cabin nor the actual car in the video, Volvo's Vice President of design Thomas Ingenlath makes a charismatic appearance. He also says the front passenger seat will be replaced by a "lounge console" for a precise purpose: taking "luxury to a brand new level".

Of course, we're left hanging by the Volvo man but his recent claims are a bit confusing and contradictory with his previous statement regarding the XC90 Excellence.

I mean, what happened to "this is our new flagship car" and "we have created the ultimate luxury experience of Scandinavian design", or "Volvo has never launched a car like this before"?

We'll cover the Shanghai Auto Show as it opens its gates, so stay tuned for live photos of Volvo's both luxurious cars.
