Volvo is keen to make a name for itself as a green and sustainable manufacturer, and they are putting quite a bit of effort into their green program, with cars like an all-electric version of the C30 hatchback, or the V60 plug-in hybrid. The latter has already reportedly sold out its first 1,000 examples, which represents the entire production run for one year.
The first 1,000 are, however, special edition cars, called ‘Pure Limited’, which gives them a unique Electric Silver livery, as well as drag-reducing 17-inch rims and exhaust pipes which sit flush with the rear bumper. The V60 hybrid features Volvo’s familiar 2.4-liter five-cylinder diesel engine, which is good for 215 hp. It drives the front wheels, leaving the job of powering the rear wheels to a 70 hp electric motor. Its lithium-ion battery pack can store up to 11.2 kWh, ensuring the car has a maximum range of 50 km (32 miles).

According to Doug Speck, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Car Corporation: "2013 will be one of the most intense years in the company's history. Including the all-new V40 versions in 2012, we are renewing more or less our whole model range in less than two years."
